Exploring Kolhapur 1

 Welcome, to My Blog

Now we will be exploring kolhapur the Land of free & happy people I must say. The Land of Brave people or the Land of pahilwans, rivers and what not.

you might find people here abusing like (Randechya) but don't take it personal... this is kind of culture/common talk they will forget saying this words in mere 2 minutes this is that common. And I said don't take it personal doesn't mean you suffer anyway you know what I mean. But I must say you will find people here with humanity and care.

Now I will get to main subject so

1. How To Reach..

Nearest Airport is Pune Airport. which is 233Km also Goa Airport is on the same distance which is also an International Airport.

Kolhapur is District place so Traveling here is quite easy as the place is well connected.with Bus and Trains.

2. where to stay

Depending on budget there are lot of Lodging hotels and hostels present for stay.

I personally stayed at Hotel Ayodhya at Tararani chowk which is quite good actually and the food was also good.

3.  Travelling Inside

So many public transports is there like bus,Rickshaw,Ola,Taxi, etc even try to hire vehicles like car/scooty to roam around.

now let's start with how I did.

So In morning I landed at Jyotiba Temple which is some 30-50km from Main City yeah that's right I was on time limit so I got there first. I was bathed and fresh so was the best time to take Darshan. so I did and I stayed there for some time. then I got to panhala fort.

Now here is tact most new people don't know that we don't need to get to the bottom of hill but we have one road that connect this two places from above only. Ask this to local people and they can guide you.

Panhala Fort have a great History that Every marathi person know. Bajiprabhu Deshpande, Shiva Knahvi, and Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj actually fought here. there footsteps are inspiration to generations ahead...

Exploring Karad 4

Part 4

To See part 3 again please Click here.

After all mesmerizing view of Ghat ,Sadashiv Gad and Karad markets. now rest as early as possible as you need to wake up early morning nearly 5:00 Am for our next Spot.

Get up and Quickly be ready with Trekking attire now you will be going to experience Real Sahyadri.

after Freshen Up go near Bus-Stop Chai walas are there have a good amount of Tea and Breakfast and keep Water bottels, Biscuits and packaged Snacks with you. Keep Mobile for any problems occur(Don't worry the place have enough range to call )

Around 6-6:30 Take an Auto and ask him to Drop you in JakhinWadi ask him to drop you as near as possible to Back Entrance of Agashiv Gad (There is front also which Directly leads to Agashiv Caves and have Stairs which will not give much feel but if you are not a Trekker types you can use that path also). Like Agashiv Gad(also called as Agashiv Caves). Villagers are very helpful if you stuck in finding roads. then you will find The Board of Welcome to Santuary and you can confirm that you are On right track. Now this area is somewhat away from Normal Human places so you will find less people near Base of Agashiv Gad. then Just follow the Road and you will see amazing greenry and if You are as my saying reached Early morning you will find good amount of foggy weather Just feels Like Heaven. Even if you visit in Monsoon you will find small waterfalls as you move.

Enroute Agashiv

Small Waterfall

V-Shaped View #El Classico

There first Stop you will encounter is called Bhairav mandir and  Buddhist Caves, If local person is not there please do not Enter without Safety Equipment's as you may encounter Snakes and some yack Frogs which you don't want to see.. then have little rest see the view of V shaped Mountains(Looks Beautiful I must say)(here at some point Try Echoing the Voices) and then march to next point which is Top of this mountain (There is one shelter like spot in between and you at least need to come here while going down and then need to move towards Cave )and is called as Mahadev Temple. From here everything looks Very Small and you feel Like you conquered the World. Now Roam around on Top and Relax in area of Temple and Eat Snacks. Then don't return Via Same Route, Now comes some Tough trekking you need to search for cave area from Top and go down in that Direction (If you observe carefully it is opposite side from where we just came) here trek can be somewhat difficult so please be careful and slow. Then you reach what is called as Agashiv caves go roam around the caves and then you can go down via Stares. But here you might not get any Rikshaw so you need to again Walk nearly 3-4 kms to get any vehicles, When we were going we found one mini truck and we sat in that.

Now You might be Hungry after this much of hassle so just reach near Bangalore Highway naka (Entrance of Karad City as mentioned in Part 1) thereby 2 spots are available 1. Manpasanad Biryani (Shout out all Non-veg Lovers) and for Vegetarians Pankaj Hotel can be nice option and Highway Dhabas are also there.

Now take some rest and come to One Secret Spot which is Khodshi Dam (it is near Renuka Temple) which is Half Built on Krishna River and good place to look at calm waters of krishna and the culture nearby. I will not recommend to swim here if you are not expert in Swiming as water levels might change any time. and please be careful. views are awesome while coming there and also at Dam also.

Update: There new gate is created from saidapur side so if you need to see this beauty for Dam you might need to get from other side that is from Khodshi village

View On the Top of Backside

Beautiful isn't it !

O

At the Evening You should go to Karad vita Highway Dhabas I recommend Hotel Sai Park but other hotels are also good for pockets. Non veg people should order Non veg Thalis which gives a good amount of Serving(I guess unlimited but not sure). Veg People have to go with Normal Punjabi Dishes or I will recommend best place for Veg people but it is quite far and that is Shivraj Dhaba Order there Special Akkha Masoor with Tandooris and Dahi(Yoghurt).

One Spot is remaining but it some 20km far from karad which is called Vasantgad Fort in Talbid Village. Here there is Samadhi of Shri. Sarsenapati of Swarajya that is Hambirrao Mohite who was great warrior. Almost Every Sunday people of Vasantgad Seva and Sarankshan will come there I will urge readers to go with them as they will tell you whole history of Fort. Also please Support there work by whatever means possible(Money or Physical work). These people are selflessly donating there time and money to protect the monument.

Now we had a good look on almost every spot in karad. Every place here is worth seeing Also I will Suggest people to watch Pavkeshwar Temple in any morning which is also a good spot. I will recommend if you can possible get any 2 wheeler to roam Around (Except to Agashiv). Also People find Tembhu Dam also interesting near Karad.

Now My exploration for karad ends and if you want to see some more check for my kolhapur blog

stay tuned for more atricles please comment if you like articles and Share it with your friends.

Exploring Karad 3

Part 3

To go to Part 2 click here

Ghat

So Now you have done shopping or have Explored enough Sadashiv Gad Now you should go to Krishna Ghat. (Ideal Time 4 PM to 9PM  Early morning view also Quite good)

Now Share rickshaw Paths
1. from Sadashiv gad->Krishna Kanal ->kanya shala then walk to Pritisangam Krishna ghat
2. from market at any point come to kanya shala and then walk to ghat
3. Ask any rikshaw vala to get to Ghat and you can arrive directly to the Ghat in less than 50Rs( you must Bargain)

Wait when we arrive at Kanya shala you should try Hari Om Dabeli Center they have best Dabeli. I personally Like Cheese Dabeli a lot.

Then Proceed to Chavdi Chowk and Go to Bombay restaurant which is very old but very tasty restaurant. Try Dahiwada there but all other Things are also very good.
now also if you have some space in your stomach have one Dhapata or any Maharashtrian food(pithla bhakri or paratha) at Dhapata house(mahila gruhudyog) just near Bombay restaurant. and then go to Ghat.
Here one more spot is nearby to visit and that is Naktya Rawlachi vihir(Old Well). (Step Well)Please visit that also
this is a good historical as well as photogenic Place.

Riverside at Ghat

Ghat is the most Beautiful place in karad, Go to Park in nearby and then head straight to Samadhi of Yashwantrao chavan ji  and have a darshan then go down stairs to river side and you can see intersection(in Marathi pritisangam- Beautiful intersection) of two rivers Koyna and Krishna Rivers both Generated at mahabaleshwar in Satara and meet here at karad. it relates to meeting of two sisters after marriage in there mother's home(maher in Marathi). If you face to intersection the River from left is Koyna. And the other one is Krishna river. Both rivers Considered as large and huge rivers in Maharashtra.
Then you can sit near river and feel relaxed like never before. You can also try horse riding as there are some people there with Horses for some 40-50 Rs. If you catch it around sept you can see sun setting exactly on the intersection.
Near Pritisangam
or try throwing stones  in river and count the number of hops it takes before drowning.
Now you have done all the activities and you should relax a bit in park so have a sit on grass or bench in park let kids with you play in park, A truth and dare Game will also work.
Now after doing all this it's time to try eateries outside park, don't worry about hygiene as these people try best possible hygiene they can and there is always soft corner about Indian street food at least try this one time.

So you try Pavbhaji ,Dawangiri Dosa, and Chinese and Ice cream, Faluda, Ice Gola , Custard milk, and much more..
My own favorites are-
1. The best Vyanktesh chat center(which is at very end and u must find the original one which have one good Certificate of something) they have a very awesome Dahipuri(Quite Different than Dahiwada). also other chat like panipuri ,bhel , etc. are good at this stall..
pic Credits - Tushar Suryawanshi

2. The Dawangiri Dosa center where they have Best Cut dosa u must try this..(Again find the Original Anna)
3. It's my favorite Royal pavbhaji but some love Swagat pavbhaji too...
And i am sure There are all items enough sufficient to full fill your stomach.

Now, this is for Tea lovers..
if you want to have Tea at any time from morning to 10 PM at Night go to the famous Talaf(it means Craving in English) Shop near Shivaji Chowk / Datta Chowk they serve best Tea(Which At least I think) in town. they also have Lassi options available.
Update: Talaf  have got New Branch Near Banglore Highway and some good shops opened near Krishna Canal also.

For Ice Cream and Faluda Lovers in same Shivaji Chowk head to Sawaliya Ice Cream not at Store but A hatgadi(white cart like structure) stall near Gajanan restaurant, Try Special Faluda which is Quite Good to try.

After all this you may require Rest now to move to Next Part.

Exploring Karad 2

part-2

for part 1 click here

Now you freshen up a bit and it is good shiny day now you have two options

First go to shopping in nearby market just beyond the Alanakar hotel. Specially from payal footwear, near post office  to  kanya shala(school) and Nearby places, I suggest that you should walk(it is not a very large distance) and go to the favorite shops as you like.
and then rest in hotel again till 4 PM.

Second Option is to go to Sadashiv gad(I am Suggesting this because you may have less time to explore) Although I do suggest that the places with suffix gad at the end should be Explored at Early morning.

Entrance of Sadashiv Gad

Sadashiv gad in Rainy Season

From Central Bus Stand you can follow road to Krishna bridge and then you can take karad-vita road and then turn right at hazarmachi and go straight and you will find sadashiv gad
you can also take what is called Share Rickshaw or Rickshaw Pool for Ola users..
by which you just stand in front of Bus Stand (in which direction you want to go ) and ask for share rickshaw or stop any rickshaw with passenger(first ask them whether this is share rickshaw if you are new to the concept some people also call this thing as dugdugi) and ask them to go Krishna Canel (just after Krishna Bridge) for 10Rs and Then Again take Share Rickshaw to Oglewadi and tell the driver to stop at hazarmachi corner.
Just Go in Direction of Hill asking nearby people.
Just have good Trek and Go to End Point have good collection of photos, Selfies, Videos but safely. The Place is very Sacred(pavitra) and hence don't act in the way that may be the wrong to do in common Indian society, I can't specify the Exact things But you will understand when you reach.

At the Top you will find Shiva Temple and a small plateau to explore...
and at the left End of the gad you can get a view of olden times water saving tanks.
There is small pond on Gad which have to be searched extensively and u may get some good pictures near pond. Note that Pond. it's very picturesque place.
in Winter Season morning

The Forts are very good to visit in Rainy season and Sadashiv gad is no Exception to that Beautiful scenery of fogs (also in Winters) and Greenery around will make you very happy. then go down the fort and have good lunch at alankar hotel again or If you need to get chilled with Ice-Cream like chillness, Must Visit the Surya mastani at Krishna Canal.(it is on the way only)
surya special mastani or chocolate mastani are worth Try.

Gadbad mastani

some great photos of Sadashiv gad and karad can be seen on Instagram profile of Abhishek mane he is very nice photographer and have clicked various images of sadashiv gad(you need to scroll off course).

Now you should be in evening time near around 4 PM after any activity shopping or sadashiv gad if you come under 4 PM go rest in Hotel or follow third part of blog. And now my most favorite place that is Krishna Ghat is coming in picture. To go to next part (3) click here
